Welcome to My Blog!

I'm a brand new blogger.  I decided to share my ideas and passion for thrifting.  I love to thrift...thrift stores, yard sales, craigslist, salvage yards....love them all!  I live for the deal!

So I'm going to start out my posts with a visit to my home.   First stop is my daughter, Ally's, room.  It is one of my favorites because it is a room I would have loved as a child.  My husband says I'm reliving my childhood...and that's okay with me. :)

The bed, dresser and nightstand all came from Craigslist for $200. They were ugly but had great potential.  I love the details...the posts, the scalloped  trim, the curves.  First, I primed it all with "original" Kilz and then applied two coats of exterior enamel for durability.  I have had no problems at all with the paint chipping.

I used iron-on hemming tape to make one super-long sheer.  I attached a small curtain rod to the ceiling and one on each wall to form the canopy over the bed.

I found the bedding on clearance at target.com and the colors are a perfect match to Hello Kitty.

Ally got to pick out the hardware for her "new" furniture...of course she picked crystal knobs.  Together we chose the dainty brushed nickel handles.

The nightstand started out with a big drawer on the bottom that I removed and put in a thin piece of plywood to make a bottom.  Voila!  A place to keep extra books.

Note:  Hello Kitty lampshade - $1 from Goodwill, Lamp was recycled and sprayed yellow, flowers - .25 from a yard sale

I needed a place to put her books and wanted the type that showed the books from the front.  I found this Pottery Barn rack on Craigslist for 1/2 the price I would've paid had I ordered one from Pottery Barn itself.

Note - Princess art was $3 each on clearance at AC Moore

I found this chair at a local thrift store and paid $15 for it.  The upholstery was in really rough shape and I decided to tackle it myself.  I ended up spending $60 for fabric but got exactly what I wanted.  I had the chair cushion made by a friend who did not even charge me...otherwise I did the rest myself.  And I don't think I would ever recover another chair again.  :)

Note: Throw pillows were $1 each from thrift stores.

I had to include a picture of the huge Barbie house.  I did not get a deal on this, but it was the best Christmas gift ever...she plays with it all the time.  But I did get a deal on all the dolls and their clothes...I have a friend whose daughter had outgrown them and I asked her if I could buy them from her.  She let me have them for yard sale prices.

And what little girl's room would be complete without a table to have tea?

Note: Table - $11 on clearance from Wal-Mart.  I sprayed it pink myself.

Thank you for visiting Ally's room with me.  I hope you will come back and visit again soon
